  4th IAA Conference on University Satellite Missions and CubeSat Workshop4th IAA Conference on University Satellite Missions and CubeSat Workshop

The 4th IAA Conference on University Satellite Missions and CubeSat Workshop took place on 04-07 December 2017 in Roma, Italy. The event, organized by GAUSS Srl under the aegis of the International Academy of Astronautics (IAA), gathered many participants from all around the world belonging to the Space academic, scientific and industry domains. During this forum, high level speakers have presented scientific and technical Papers on the Microsatellites related field, sharing their knowledge on the several aspects of the small satellite missions and the CubeSats community. IAA Secretary General Dr. Jean-Michel Contant – member of the Program Committee - gave the Opening Lecture and co-chaired the Conference with Professor Filippo Graziani (GAUSS President and IAA member) and other experts. The program was organized into Invited Lectures and Technical Sessions structured according to the following Topics: Launch Opportunities, Payload, Space Mission Analysis and Design, Attitude Control, Space Debris, PoquetCubes, CubeSats Subsystems and New Perspectives. An IAA Regional Meeting and Guided Tours were also organized during the Conference days.

  IAA Regional Meeting Roma

An IAA Regional Meeti ng was held on December 5, 2017 in Roma, Italy. Secretary General Dr. Jean-Michel Contant gave the opening speech followed by an introduction by Regional Secretary Prof. Antonio Viviani and a lecture “This star as a tail, which makes it very beautiful... The Rosetta mission” by Academician Prof. Amalia Ercoli Finzi. Meeting participants gathered in a gala dinner with an induction of newly elected members: Prof. Mohamed Argoun, full Member for Section 1 on Basic Sciences, Prof. Paolo Gaudenzi, corresponding member for Section 2 on Engineering Sciences, Prof. Giampiero Naletto, corresponding member for Section 1 on Basic Sciences, and Dr. Chantal Cappelletti, full Member for Section 2 on Engineering Sciences.

  21st IAA Humans in Space Symposium

The 21st IAA Humans in Space Symposium took place on 27-30 November 2017 in Shenzhen, China. Many participants gathered on this occasion and discussed the future challenges related to human spaceflights. The program was scheduled with a total of 14 regular technical sessions and more than 120 papers presented. There was also a dedicated Astronaut session. A gala dinner with an induction ceremony of newly elected Academicians was organized during the conference.

  7th IAA-CSA Conference on Space Technology Innovation

The Chinese Society of Astronautics (CSA) and the International Academy of Astronautics (IAA) have successfully co-organized the 7th Conference on Space Technology Innovation held on November 23-24, 2017 in Shanghai, China. The conference focussed on the theme of how advanced space technology benefits human society, discuss related topics of space development, and further promote the international cooperation.  Several different topics were discussed like satellite technology, satellite applications, commercialization of satellite applications, and international cooperation and policies.

  1st IAA Conference on Space Situational Awareness

The 1st IAA Conference on Space Situational Awareness (ICSSA) took place in Orlando, Florida, USA on November 13-15, 2017. Many participants from 16 different countries and 17 US states gathered at this event. The conference covered broad-ranging technical and policy related aspects associated with the topic of Space Situational Awareness (SSA). Final program is now available online. Prof. Riccardo Bevilacqua received his 2017 IAA newly-elected diploma presented by Secretary-General Jean-Michel Contant at this occasion.

  IAA Academy Day Adelaide

Many IAA new members were inducted on September 24, 2017 in Adelaide, Australia, during the Academy DayHonor Night Dinner. IAA awards were also given at this occasion. Academy Day program is available.

  1st IAA North East Asia Symposium on Small Satellites - Serving the Needs for the Benefits of the Region

The 1st IAA North East Asia Symposium on Small Satellites - titled "Serving the Needs for the Benefits of the Region" - took place in Mongolia's capital Ulaanbaatar from August 21-23, 2017. Initiated by IAA academician Dr. M. Saandar on behalf of the Mongolian small satellite community the symposium was organized by the International Academy of Astronautics (IAA), hosted and supported by the Mongolian Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (MSPRS), the Mongolian Academy of Sciences (MAS) and MonMap Engineering Services as well as promoted by the Mongolian Ministry of Education, Culture, Sciences and Sports (MECSS), the National University of Mongolia (NUM), the Asian Association of Remote Sensing (AARS) and the International Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS).
